Volunteers of America Oregon is seeking a Cook to join our growing team at the Men's Residential Center! The Cook plans and prepares large batch meals in a fast-paced environment at the Men's Residential Center. This position maintains a clean kitchen and work area, and complies with sanitation, health, and personal hygiene standards.

Compensation: $18.61 - $24.83/hour (Depends on Experience and/or Certifications). This is a part-time position with excellent benefits! Education, Training and Experience:

  • Prior commercial cooking experience is preferred.
  • USDA recipes and guidelines experience a plus.
  • Current Multnomah County Food Handlers Permit or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.
  • Experience working within a nonprofit or social services environment is preferred but not required.

Additional Eligibility Requirements:

  • Prefer an active driver's license, current insurance, and ability to pass our insurer's driving standards.
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check.
  • Able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. occasionally, stand, bend, walk and reach.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare large batch meals.
  • Assist with events and set up in a timely manner so that quality, temperature, and appearance of food are preserved.
  • Follow production sheets and recipes.
  • Always maintain a clean kitchen and work area.
  • Work with kitchen staff to assure quality and great service is provided.
  • Provide training and support to staff and volunteers.

Work Environment: Works in a kitchen using equipment such as stove, oven, dishwasher, slicer, coffee machine, mixer, and chef's knives to prepare food. Requires standing for 4 or more hours a day. The employee is frequently exposed to heat, steam, and noise.

Schedule: This is a part-time position, 20 hrs. per week, Saturday and Sunday.
